Easy Etsy Bill Payments

If you accept Direct Checkout in your Etsy shop you can now pay your fees directly from your Shop Payment Account balance! This option has been asked for ever since Etsy Direct Checkout went live. Well, they finally listened to us and here it is!

Now you can use the Etsy Shipping Label tool without worry that your bill will skyrocket. After you print your labels just deduct the shipping from your Etsy bill by making a payment. This is really great news for everyone. Just remember that Etsy sends your funds to your bank on Mondays unless you request an earlier deposit.

More Etsy Shipping Updates

Etsy recently changed the requirements for their direct shipping. You used to have a bill under $25 to pay and print shipping. They have extended that so if you have an Etsy bill of less than $50 you can now pay for postage and it will be added to your bill.

That helps out some, though I am sure there are plenty of shops that can easily hit the $50 mark and beyond. Fortunately, Etsy has announced that if you have Direct Checkout in your shop you will soon be able to pay for postage out of your Etsy Payment Account. That is good news for many of us! Etsy Checkout Update

After being under the weather for a bit, I got super busy. Things have finally slowed down a bit so here I am, back writing about Etsy and such. Etsy recently changed their Direct Checkout from a three day wait to just a one day wait before they deposit your money. That is great news for some of you who need the money for materials and the like. Of course, sometimes you still have to go in and manually schedule your deposit. But it is a start.

Another thing in the works is Etsy Gift Certificates. You have to have Etsy Checkout in your shop to accept them but it might just be worth it to you. One other thing to note, I got a message from Etsy that coming soon, hopefully in October, you'll be able to pay for your shipping out of the Direct Sale. That means that you'll be able to pay with money already owed to you rather than money you may not yet have. This should help those of you on a tight budget.

In the meantime, while I was under the weather, I managed to meet a couple of exciting goals. First goal was to add 10 new shops to my wholesale accounts. So, while I was sitting on the couch going through Kleenex like there was no tomorrow, I contacted a lot of shops via email. I even set up a "New Shop Special" on my website with a "Buy It Now" button courtesy of PayPal. I ended up with 13 new shops! I always love it when I can exceed my goals!

This week I finally bit the bullet and opened another Etsy shop. http://SteampunkOddities.etsy.com I am finally attempting to separate my chainmail from my steampunk to give two much cleaner looking shops. Etsy To Offer Gift Certificates

Etsy recently announced that they will be offering Gift Cards. Anyone that has Etsy Direct Checkout is already good to go. It is a code that is going to be entered at the time of checkout. So, we still get paid, just like normal. It will be just like someone paid with a credit card.

The only thing you have to do to be eligible is to have Direct Checkout enabled for your shop. As a way to entice more users to switch, Etsy is paying all the transaction fees for the month of September. That is actually kind of cool in my opinion. I have been using Direct Checkout for a while and my sales have increased dramatically. Sure you have to wait a few days to get paid but you get more sales which means more money.

Etsy Direct Shipping

Yesterday I went to my sold items to mark them as shipped after creating the labels from PayPal. Low and behold I noticed something I had not seen before. There is now an option for creating shipping labels directly from Etsy! Now, apparently not everyone has this option yet and I never received a notification about it.

This is their answer to shipping with Etsy Direct Checkout. I had already made my labels so I have no idea what the pricing is and if it is comparable to PayPal or the USPS site. Hopefully Etsy won't be trying to make money off the shipping any more than they already do with your final fees.

Here is how it looks to work. You create the postage and the cost gets added to your Etsy bill. I can see this being a huge problem for some people. Your Etsy bill could get pretty hefty. Though it should come in pretty handy for those orders made through Etsy Direct Checkout. Well, it saves a short amount of time anyway. I guess as with all things, only time will tell.

More On Etsy Direct Checkout

I thought I would give you an update on Etsy Direct Checkout. I have had this up and running on my shop for a few weeks now. In fact, five of my last eight sales were through Direct Checkout. It does take a little while for the money to get into your account. Not a huge issue as long as you have some money for shipping. In my opinion, I do not think I would have gotten those sales had I not been using Direct Checkout. So, for me, it is a good thing.

I sell many of the same items over and over again, so I know exactly what most of my items weigh. It really isn't a problem for me to create a shipping label with a tracking number and mark it as shipped within minutes of an order. This really does two things for me. One, it gets the ball rolling on getting my money from Etsy, and two, it puts me in a great light with my customers for such fast shipping! In the note to the customer I say that their item will be shipped out within 24 hours except on weekends and holidays.

Direct Checkout may not be great for those who create custom items on a regular basis. Especially if you use the money for materials to create it. In those cases it is probably better for you to make sure to set up a custom listing and let them know that it needs to be paid for through PayPal or some other medium.

Etsy Checkout Revisited

I received the email last week that I could now add Etsy Direct Checkout to my shop. I added it and found out that the first payment was going to be delayed for 10 days because of adding my checking account. Every time you change your checking account information there is a 10 day delay. Then there is a 3 day delay after each order where Etsy holds your money. It seems a bit unclear but it looks like the 3 days actually starts after the item is shipped not after it is sold.

What is also unclear is how long it takes for them to make a deposit. If it is anything like PayPal it could take an additional 3 to 5 days for them to deposit your money. I have made two sales so far and it seems that the second sale fell victim to the 10 day initial hold and will not be available until after that has cleared.

There is no shipping option with Etsy as of yet, so before you start using Etsy Direct Checkout make sure you have the funds to ship packages. You can use PayPal for shipping. Just use the multi-order shipping option. I had a glitch both times that I used this option and never got the original label to print and had to wait until it was in my transaction list and reprint the label. I am using Chrome browser so that could have been part of it. But you may want to just start an account at usps.com to avoid potential hassle.
